My Grandmother always had the best boozy baking recipes. This recipe is a throwback to the classic cocktail that was all the rage back in day. A Brandy Alexander cocktail just reminds me of the golden age. This Frozen Brandy Alexander Pie has all of the flavor of the cocktail in an ice cream style pie. It’s easy to make and I love how creamy it is.
Many people don’t realize that you can make ice cream with sweetened condensed milk. The result is super creamy and rich, almost like a custard – but without egg. Keep this pie in the freezer and just serve immediately, because (obviously) it will melt!
Looking for even more great pie recipes? I’ve got some amazing pies that my readers love:
What Is Brandy Alexander Pie?
A classic Brandy Alexander cocktail is made with cognac, creme de cacao and creme. It became popular during the early 1900’s. There’s a gin version called the Alexander that it’s based off of. My Grandmother loved drinking Brandy Alexander’s and this pie has all of the flavor.
The pie has a creamy ice cream consistency. The liqueurs used are creme de cacao and brandy. I think it’s light and refreshing – perfect with a cup of coffee for dessert.
How To Make Frozen Brandy Alexander Pie
The two liqueurs that you’ll need to purchase are creme de cacao and brandy (you’ll be able to make a great chocolate martini later if you keep them stocked). For the pie, you’ll want to use a 9-inch pie dish. I love using my glass pie dish, but any type will do.
What To Serve With Brandy Alexander Pie
You obviously don’t want to serve ice cream with an ice cream pie! So you can top it with homemade whipped cream and I like to drizzle it with some chocolate syrup. I also love to enjoy my pie with a fresh cup of coffee. It’s a great hot and cold combination!
How To Store Your Frozen Brandy Alexander Pie
Keep your pie in the freezer. It will start melting as soon as it comes out of the pie. When I make mine, I don’t cover it with plastic wrap and just place it in the freezer. After we’ve enjoyed it, if there are leftovers, I’ll then cover it with plastic wrap. Keep it and enjoy the pie for 4-5 days.
Do You Need To Use Top-Shelf liquor?
No! In fact, I don’t recommend using top-shelf alcohol, unless that’s what you have on hand. You can use whatever you’ve got. I know the alcohol doesn’t bake off, so you’ll still get a lot of the flavors, but there’s no need to use top-shelf.
Recipe Substitutions
There are two recipe substitutions you can make with this recipe. You can use chocolate graham crackers for the crust, which is amazing and I love the pie that way too. You could also try an Oreo pie crust. If you don’t want to make a homemade crust, just buy a store-bought graham cracker crust.
What You’ll Need From The Grocery Store:
- Graham Crakers
- Heavy Whipping Cream
- Brandy
- Sweetened Condensed Milk
- Butter
Step-By-Step Directions To Make Frozen Brandy Alexander Pie
Preheat the oven to 200º. Combine 1 1/4 cup crushed graham crackers with a half stick of melted butter. Press into the bottom of a 9″ pie dish and bake for 10 minutes. Let cool and set aside.
Note: If you decide to omit the baking, just use a pre-made graham cracker pie shell from the grocery store!
Combine sweetened condensed milk, whipping cream, creme de cacao and brandy in a large bowl.
Gently stir until completely combined. It will look like a creamy liquid.
Pour the mixture into the graham cracker crust. Freeze for 5-7 hours until the filling is firm. Garnish with chocolate syrup and chocolate shavings (I used white chocolate shavings with chocolate syrup).
