DIY Natural Christmas Ornament: An Easy Christmas Tree Decor Idea

The holiday season brings out the crafter in all of us. I love easy craft ideas that can add a bit more holiday cheer, without costing too much. This DIY Natural Christmas Ornament fits both of those requirements. It’s made with a recycled plastic ornament and acorns. Since you can find the acorns outside, all together this project costs less than $5 per ornament to make too!

What’s great about this craft is how little skill it involves. Almost anyone can make this ornament without stress of techniques. I used acorns, but if you prefer a different outdoor element, use that instead. Feathers, pebbles or dried flowers would also look amazing.

I kept mine looking natural, but you could add some glitter for more pizazz. Whatever inspires you, go for it! That’s the fun of making your own Natural Christmas Ornament – it’s your own design.

Want the kids to make one too? Plan an outing where they collect the outdoor material. Double check you’re using shatterproof recycled plastic ornaments. Let them add the inside elements. Assist them by doing the glue gun portions for them. It’s a fun way to bond during the holiday season – just add some carols.

How To Make This DIY Natural Christmas Ornament

What You’ll Need:

  • Recycled Shatterproof Plastic Ornament
  • Glue Gun
  • Natural Elements (I used acorns)
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon

To start, collect your natural outdoor elements. Be inspired by nature and find something that matches the colors you’re looking for. Acorns are great because they don’t hold moisture. You want something dry.

Add glue to the top of an acorn. Starting at the top, glue each acorn around the ornament. You’ll be creating rows. Once you’ve finish the top row, keep moving down to cover 1/4 of the ornament top.

Next, remove the top of the ornament and set aside. Drop the inside natural filler inside of the ornament. Feel free to add glitter, if you’d like. While it’s not environmentally-friendly, it does add a bit of holiday sparkle. I opted to leave mine looking natural.
