Tips for Using a Jogging Stroller

We’re so lucky as Moms to have the technology and gear to run with our kids in a jogging stroller. I love the quality time I can spend with my son while running. The fresh air is just as good for him as it is for me and usually it’s exactly what we both need. When the crying or temper tantrums start, I lace up for a run.

Tips for running with a jogging stroller.

With Fall around the corner, now is the perfect time to take the little ones on the road for your next run. Even though you can just head out the door, take my advice and prep yourself for a successful run. There are a few extra things to consider when running with the kids to keep them happy, while you run stress free. Because sometimes stroller miles are the only miles we have time for!

Tips For Using a Jogging Stroller

  • Research your jogging stroller: read blog reviews, store recommendations and ratings before buying your jogging stroller. The shocks and weight can be different amongst brands. We use the BOB Gear brand and love it! It has worn well and my son loves to nap in it.
  • Read the manual: before you head out, read your jogging stroller’s manual. You want to double check the height and weight requirements of the stroller against your child. You can’t start running with them as newborns. They must be tall enough and have the head stability.
  • Be prepared for anything: bring along diapers and snacks for the kids. You never know when you’ll need them along the run. But still try to pack lightly. The extra weight make you a stronger runner, but too much can cause injury when you aren’t used to it.
  • Bring entertainment: the older kids like books, toys or games to keep them occupied. You’ll be able to run for a longer time too. I actually ran the Atlanta Women’s 5k in the stroller division while my son played on the iPhone the entire time!
  • Check the weather: If it’s under 50 degrees, stay at home. If it’s over 75 degrees, apply extra sunscreen and clip a fan to the stroller for them.
  • Fasten toys & cups: Use zip ties to secure sippy cups or toys. That way they don’t fall out of the stroller, causing you to stop.
  • Avoid traffic: Obviously, run on streets that are less busy and put reflective gear on your stroller. You can never be too safe as a mother runner!

Next time life as a Mom makes you want to pull your hair out (could be today), try taking everyone on a run. Lace up and head outside for the fresh air. You’ll be a  stronger runner from pushing them and feel less stressed.

You know, I have seen these types of strollers before, but didn't know they were for joggers. I just thought they were souped up strollers. I guess you learn something new every day.
