Dirty Banana Frozen Cocktail (With Kahlua & Dark Rum)

The quickest way to transport yourself to the tropics is by indulging in a frozen beverage. There’s nothing that reminds me of an amazing vacation more than a drink. We loved this Dirty Banana Frozen Cocktail so much, on our honeymoon, that we brought home the secret recipe that the bartender shared with us. I make it so much for our friends and family that I wanted to share it with my readers too – even if that means the concoction is no longer a secret.

The original Dirty Banana Frozen Cocktail recipe with Kailua, milk, dark rum and bananas.

When you vacation at Sandals, they have a little saying that the staff always says – “no pressure” and it just adds to the laid back Caribbean vibe. Having a drink in my hand, by the pool or on the beach, is the only way I like to vacation. My Husband and I joked around that this Dirty Banana Frozen Cocktail was almost like an alcoholic breakfast smoothie. The longer we stayed on our honeymoon, the earlier in the day we started ordering drinks.

Whether you make this recipe for a pool day, tiki party or it’s barely noon – I’m not telling! You do you and just enjoy the chocolatey rich banana flavor.

How To Make A Dirty Banana Frozen Cocktail

I serve my frozen drinks in a tall hurricane glass for added effect. It just feels more special if you’re using speciality bartender drink ware. If you’re making a large batch, for a party, you can find plastic hurricane glasses. They’re great to use if you’re in a pool area where glass isn’t allowed.

What Does The Dirty Banana Frozen Cocktail Taste Like?

The drink is thick, like a smoothie. It has a deep chocolate, mocha and banana flavor – with a hint of spice. The Kahlua adds the coffee chocolate liquor and the dark rum adds the hint of spice.

Freezing Bananas Beforehand

When I notice my bananas are starting to turn too ripe, I throw them into the freezer. Freeze bananas by taking off the peel and cutting them in half. Store them in freezer bags. They’ll be ready for your Dirty Banana cocktail and you don’t have to mess around with using ice.

How To Garnish Your Dirty Banana Frozen Cocktail (Or Add A Floater)

There are a couple of different ways to garnish your cocktail. I like to shake a little cocoa powder on top, for a neat visual and flavor effect. If you want more chocolate flavor, drizzle chocolate syrup over the top. Lastly, if you want to kick it up a notch and make it even more alcoholic, you can add a floater. Measure out a shot (1 oz) of Kahlua to add on top and it’ll float for extra punch.
