How To Keep Your Chocolate Peanut Butter Dessert Bars Fresh

I keep mine in the refrigerator, especially during the winter months when the house is warmer. Either keep them in the baking dish or transfer the sliced bars into an airtight food storage container.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In large mixing bowl, cream butter, shortening and peanut butter with brown sugar; beat in egg and vanilla.
In separate bowl, combine flour and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture.
Press dough evenly into ungreased 13×9-inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 18 minutes or until lightly browned; let cool. In large saucepan over low heat, melt chocolate chips and peanut butter; stir in cereal.
Spread Peanut Butter Topping over baked base; chill for about 3 hours. Cut into bars.

- 1 1/4 cups packed brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

- 3⁄4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter
- 1 1/2 cups crisp rice cereal
