2026 Mazda CX-90: The SUV Keeps Up With Mom Life

Last Updated on April 15, 2026 by Kimberly Stroh

As a mom, I don’t just need a car. I need a command center. Between school drop-offs, grocery runs, sports practices, and the occasional moment of quiet (rare, but I’ll take it), my vehicle has to do it all. After spending time with the 2026 Mazda CX-90, I can confidently say this is one of those rare SUVs that actually understands what family life looks like and keeps up without missing a beat.

From errands to family road trips, the 2026 Mazda CX-90 delivers.

Space, Comfort, and a Little Bit of Sanity

One of the first things I noticed about the Mazda CX-90 is just how spacious and thoughtfully designed it is. With three rows that comfortably seat up to seven passengers, there is room for kids, carpool extras, and even the dog on chaotic days. The legroom is generous enough that no one is arguing about who has the “bad seat,” which, if you are a parent, you know is a small miracle. My oldest is twelve, and it feels like the vehicle our family can grow with.

The cabin is impressively quiet, too. Whether I am navigating after-school traffic or sneaking in a peaceful solo drive, the calm interior makes a huge difference. There is also plenty of storage for everything we haul around daily including backpacks, sports gear, work bags, and snacks. Everything has a place, which makes staying organized feel almost achievable.

Grocery Runs, Gear, and Everything In Between

Trunk space in the Mazda Cx-90
I was pleasantly surprised by the cargo space in the Mazda CX-90.

If your trunk currently looks like a game of Tetris gone wrong, you will appreciate what the CX-90 brings to the table. This SUV was clearly designed with real-life errands in mind. Grocery runs, especially those big weekly hauls, feel effortless thanks to the wide rear opening and flexible seating configurations.

I put it to the test by filling it up with our monthly groceries. As a family of five, we don’t skimp on groceries. The cargo space holds more than you’d think, with 14.9 cubic feet of cargo volume, with the back seats up. If you’re heading to the home improvement store and put both rows of folded down, you’ll get 72.4 cubic feet of cargo volume. Your kid’s dream treehouse is just a few Home Depot trips with the Mazda CX-90.

I love how easy it is to switch things around depending on the day. One minute I am loading bulk items and oversized packages, the next I am fitting in sports equipment for weekend games. The cargo space adapts without a struggle, and I am not constantly rearranging things just to make it all fit.

Safety and Features That Actually Make Mom Life Easier

Let’s be honest, safety is non-negotiable when you are driving precious cargo. Mazda really delivers here, and it genuinely gives me peace of mind. The CX-90 was named Consumer Reports’ first-ever Safest New-Car and earned a 2025 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+, which says a lot before you even get behind the wheel.

But beyond the awards, it is the everyday features that stand out. From helping me stay aware on busy roads to making crowded parking lots feel less stressful, the CX-90 feels like it has my back.
