Smoothies are one of my favorite easy options in warmer months. They’re a great afternoon snack or simple to-go breakfast option. This Layered Berry Banana Smoothie is refreshing and sweet. It’s a simple smoothie recipe, divided into 3 parts, all made with yoghurt.
The end effect is a layered smoothie look, with a banana, strawberry and blackberry layer! Sip on the smoothie for a flavorful delight that even the kids love.

It’s really easy to make the layers and doesn’t add much additional time to your prep work. Let’s face it, one of the joys about smoothies is how fast they come together. It’s all about how you pour the smoothie into the jar.
The trick is using a spoon. Just place a spoon on the side of the jar and carefully add the mixture onto the spoon so it trickles down into the glass to create the layer. Voilà – that’s how it’s done.
I love smoothie recipes and they’re perfect for our busy family. Check out some of my favorite smoothie recipes that I make regularly:
How To Make A Layered Banana Berry Smoothie
The basic of making any great smoothie is using an awesome blender. This recipe works best with a full size blender, instead of a to-go style blender because you’re making the different layers. So the layers will be poured into a separate glass – you might as well use a full-sized blender!

How To Prep Smoothies Ahead Of Time
The idea of smoothies is that they’re an easy on-the-go option that can be a meal replacement too. If you want to prep your smoothies ahead of time, get all of the ingredients gathered and together in the refrigerator. Measure out all of the ingredients and add the first layer ingredients to the blender. It’ll be easy to quickly start your smoothie in the morning!
Fresh Fruit vs. Frozen Fruit For The Layered Banana Berry Smoothie
I use fresh fruit in this smoothie. However, you can also use frozen fruit if you prefer. If the berries aren’t in season, frozen might be the best bet. I think the flavors are better with fresh fruit and are more pronounced. The other option is to use fresh fruit that you’ve recently frozen (instead of the grocer).
How To Store Leftover Smoothie
If I don’t finish my smoothie right away, I like to keep mine in the refrigerator. I know that it won’t be frosty cold anymore, but I can still drink it. Freezing it is another option, but the texture will change and you’ll have to let it thaw before its drinkable again.
The Best Time To Make Smoothies
Smoothies are great to make in the mornings and in the afternoons. I love to make smoothies the most in the warmer months and almost avoid them in the winter. However, my smoothie habit picks up a bit in January when I’m try to undo my holiday indulgence.

Recipe Alternatives
There are so many ways you can make this smoothie your own recipe. Once you get the hang of making the layers, add some individual ingredients to give your smoothie a nutritional boost! Check out some of these additions:
Vanilla Protein Powder – This is a no-brainer! I love blending protein powder into my smoothies when I want to use it as a meal replacement. Adding vanilla protein powder into your Layered Banana Berry Smoothie won’t change the flavors.
Energy Smoothie Powder – Use a vanilla Energy Smoothie Powder to provide extra nutritional benefits and a boost of energy. They’re made with a special fortified blend of vitamins and quick sugars for the little energy you need to kick off the day.
