Somewhere between late August and early September, you start to hear your kids coming home with small complaints about their lunches. If your children are anything like mine, you know that purchasing lunch isn’t an option and it’s time to rev up the lunch ideas. If you need a creative school lunch recipe to beat the boredom, I promise that they’ll love this Sweet Ham, Cream Cheese & Pineapple sandwich! It’s delicious, fresh and new!
An Easy Way To Get Creative With School Lunches
I love this recipe because it’s easy to make and it’s both savory alongside sweet. Instead of your typical sandwich bread, I add variety with King’s Hawaiian products. My son loves that their breads are always soft with a touch of sweet.
This recipe uses the King’s Hawaiian Mini Sub Rolls as a fun way to mix up your traditional lunch box sandwich. The unique flavor of King’s Hawaiian allows you to be creative with both savory and sweet recipes. I’ll depend on King’s Hawaiian to add that special touch, throughout the school year, to all of my lunch ideas.
What I love about this sandwich is how you can prepare the cream cheese ahead of time. I use a whipped cream cheese and sweeten it with pineapple juice. Chopped and slivered almonds are then blended into the cream cheese to add some crunch (of course, you can omit this step for any allergy issues). Just add it to your fresh pineapple and ham slices – it’s delicious with King’s Hawaiian bread!

Sweet Ham, Pineapple & Cream Cheese Sandwich Recipe
In a small bowl, combine 1 cup of whipped cream cheese with two tablespoons of fresh pineapple juice.
Toss in the almonds and stir. Store in an air-tight container, in the refrigerator, until ready to use.
To make your sandwich, slice and lay flat two pieces of King’s Hawaiian Mini Sub Rolls. Add a generous amount of the pineapple cream cheese on both sides. Adding cream cheese on both sides prevents any moisture, from the pineapple, reaching the bread.
Next, using a paper towel, gently pat your fresh sliced pineapple. This also helps prevent extra moisture. Add the pineapple and sliced ham to finish the sandwich.
To keep the sandwich fresh, roll it in plastic wrap or foil, so it stays nice until lunchtime. Keep the sandwich chilled until eating.
