What Is A Slush Cocktail?

A slush cocktail refers to the texture. It’s a version of a frozen drink that’s made with ice and not ice cream. There’s no dairy in this drink. So it’s not creamy and frozen, instead it has an icy texture. It will remind you of the slush drinks you loved as a kid. Use a kitchen blender to get the right texture. The recipe has the perfect amount of ice to liquid ratio!

What’s In This Cherry Rum Cola Slush Cocktail?

How we get the cherry flavor is by using cherry liquor. I use Dekuyper Cherry Pucker, which is a cheaper liquor that’s used to add flavor. Look for maraschino cherry liquor if you can’t find the Dekuyper version. You want the sweet cherry notes.

Coke also adds sweetness. If you want to cut the sugar, I’ve made the slush cocktail with Coke Zero and it’s still fantastic! Avoid using Cherry Coke because the cherry liquor adds all of the cherry flavor you need.

What Type of Rum To Use

Use a light spiced rum for this recipe. It doesn’t have to be a dark spiced rum. The white rum won’t add extra flavors. Since this is a fun frozen cocktail, you don’t have to use anything costly. Keep it cheap, or use what you have on hand, and all of the flavors will come together!

Cherry Rum Cola Slush Cocktail Ingredients

  • Spiced Rum: I used Captain Morgan spiced rum brand. It doesn’t have to be pricey.
  • Cherry Liquor: Use a maraschino cherry liquor like Dekuyper Cherry Pucker.
  • Coca-Cola: Substitute Coke Zero if you want to cut the sugar.
  • Ice: 2 cups total is the perfect amount for the slush cocktail texture you want.
  • Optional Garnish: Whipped Cream & Maraschino Cherries

How To Make A Large Batch Version

If you want to serve the Cherry Rum Cola Slush Cocktail at a party, you can make a large batch version with the same strengths. You’ll need a pitcher that holds at least 65 ounces of liquid. Use 4x the amount of ingredients in the recipe. Just garnish individual servings.
