Getmyboat App: Revolutionizing Boat Rentals For Travel

Last Updated on May 28, 2025 by Kimberly Stroh

The luxury of hopping on a boat, anytime and anywhere, without hours of research is now a reality. Set sail with a tap, using the Getmyboat app. It’s a concierge user-friendly app that puts boat rentals at your fingertips. Whether you’re looking for a luxury yacht in Miami, a fishing boat in the Pacific Northwest, or a sunset cruise in Pensacola, Getmyboat makes it simple to find, book, and be on the water.

How to rent a boat for the summer with your kids
Our pontoon rental was the perfect family outing to kick off summer.

We put the app to the test, securing a boat at our local lake, and it’s opened our eyes to the possibilities of using the app for travel. I’ve always been drawn to the water but owning a boat is an undertaking that’s too big. Sorting through tours or charting options when you want to be on the water isn’t fun either.

With thousands of options in locations worldwide, this app is transforming the way travelers access the water. Our local excursion is paving the way for bigger adventures.

What Is Getmyboat?

In a nutshell, Getmyboat connects boat owners with renters. The app has access to 180,000 boats in 10,000 destinations around the world. It’s incredible to think about how much freedom that gives you when traveling. It’s the world’s largest marketplace for fun, safe, and easy boat rentals of all kinds. Since it’s creation in 2013, over 2 million customers have used the platform to get out on the water.

Getmyboat is available in the Apple and Android store. Download it onto your smartphone for instant access for boat rental listings. Search by location, dates and how many people are in your party. Secure your chartered or unchartered boat rental directly in the app, and communicate with the owner through the app’s messaging system.

Our boat owner sent us all of the details we needed to know for parking, the dock location to meet them and ensured they had life jackets for our kid’s ages.

After the rental, the boat owner can rate you as a customer and, additionally, you can rate your boating experience with them. All of your future boat rentals are organized and easy to find, so you can continue to plan your next rental for your next celebration.

Getmyboat is a great way to reconnect as a family
The best part of renting our Getmyboat pontoon was getting the kids off of screen time and spending quality time together.

Great Ways To Use Getmyboat

We dipped our toes in the water and started small, renting a pontoon boat at our local lake on a random Saturday. After we made so many great family memories, the ideas started churning for future rentals. Birthdays, graduations, celebrations, romantic sunset cruises, bachelor or bachelorette parties, and Father’s Day are better celebrated on the water. Bring your cake, food and even party decor onboard for a fun day. Seeing my kid stay off screens for a whole day, to make family memories, was such a gift.

How The Getmyboat App Is Changing Travel Itineraries

I’m most excited about accessing the water while traveling. I’m comfortable knowing that I can get our family onto the water, via Getmyboat app, with a local guide, on our next trip. The app cuts out hours of research and quickly connects us with boat owners, even if we don’t carve it into our travel itinerary beforehand. Whether you plan itineraries months in advance or you want a last-minute boat, Getmyboat is ready.

How Far In Advance Should I Book My Boat Rental?

According to Getmyboat, the quickest booking they had was 20 minutes in advance of setting sail. Consider the dates you’re interested in and peak season times. Ideally, reserve the boat rental two to three weeks in advance. Like any reservations in the travel realm, it’s best to reserve a rental earlier during peak weekends like the Fourth of July or Memorial Day.

Book your boat ahead of time.
We hit the water on Memorial Day weekend, and picked a lake that is known for less boating traffic.

Safety & Regulations Necessary For Renting

Each state (or country) has different safety guidelines before renting a boat. If you’re picking a chartered boating experience, nothing is required. Just show up, as a passenger, and enjoy yourself. Over 70 percent of all Getmyboat trips are booked with a professional captain.

An unchartered boat requires a bare minimum amount of boating knowledge for navigation and safety. Check with the state you’re renting and ask the boat owner before your rental day. For Georgia, where we rented, we watched a 10-minute boat renter safety video. Our boat owner shared everything that was required of us, as a renter, before our day on the water.

Life jackets are provided by the boat owner and they checked to see how many kids life jackets we need prior to our departure date.

How To Pay For Your Getmyboat App Rental & Fees

Pricing depends on the type of vessel, location and dates. Find self-drive pontoons for as little as $50 an hour, jet skis for around $100 an hour, and crewed yachts for $100 to $500 per hour. My recommendation is to download the app and start searching.

Every payment is secured through the Getmyboat app. Payments are made at the time of booking and paid through the app. There’s a base cost and a service fee. The service fee covers aspects like payment processing, fraud prevention, and customer support.

This fee is 13% of the total rental amount for USD transactions. Even for rentals with a low total cost, there’s a minimum $5 USD service fee. The service fees are non-refundable.

What is the cancellation policy? Life happens and plans change. Customers receive a 100% refund, with a notice of up to 2 days prior to rental date.
