Southern California is one of my favorite destinations to visit. The year-round amazing weather is the perfect backdrop to many popular tourist hot spots. Even though I offer many great tips for visiting Disneyland, a great addition to your trip is family-friendly San Diego. It’s been a popular destination for families with children of all ages and parents will love the beach to city vibe. If you’re planning your next vacation to SoCal, here are the 5 Must Do Attractions in Family-Friendly San Diego.
5 Must Do Attractions in Family-Friendly San Diego
The Beach
The beach is the ultimate playground for families who enjoy water sports and marine life. Several of San Diego’s beaches offer surfing, tide pools, snorkeling, biking, volleyball, camping and designated areas for boating. I highly recommend checking out the marine life, if you’re traveling with young kids. The North Pacific Beach is a quiet spot for families and it’s supervised with lifeguards. It’s the perfect spot to build a sand castle and take a dip. Coronado Beach is known for it’s famous white sand – perfect for those Instagram shots!
The New Children’s Museum
Take learning to the next level while letting your kids explore indoor and outdoor exhibits at the New Children’s Museum. The hands-on exhibits allow children to experience art in a totally new perspective. They can enhance their critical thinking skills while exploring contemporary art or learn the science behind everyday things, like our food supply.
The San Diego Zoo
The Sand Diego Zoo with world renowned and located in Balboa Park. Some of my favorite childhood memories are from visiting this zoo. The expansive zoo is home to over 4,000 animals. Guests can walk, take a guided tour or use a double decker bus to explore. For the more adventurous types, see the San Diego Zoo from a bird’s eye perspective with the ‘Skyfari’ – an overhead gondola lift. Take a peak before your visit and watch what’s happening on the zoo’s webcams.
Legoland
Kids and adults will equally love exploring Legoland California. From rides and roller coasters to building activities and playgrounds, there is something for everyone. Sky Cruiser, one of the Park’s most popular rides, provides a whole new view from cars that zip along tracks high above ‘Fun Town’. Duplo Village is perfect for your preschooler because everything is pint sized. Be sure to schedule and entire day to play at Legoland.
Old Town Trolley Tours
See the city and culture of San Diego, firsthand, on an Old Town Trolley Tour. With eleven stops total, you’re sure to see the entire city. The best part is that your family can hop on and off as you please. So you can explore the city at your own leisure then get back on when you’re ready. The trolleys rotate every thirty minutes at each location. Save your appetite for Little Italy – one of my favorite spots to dine!
