Is The Beak and Barrel Kid-Friendly?

Last Updated on August 28, 2025 by Kimberly Stroh

Walt Disney World makes history again, with the opening of its new pirate-themed pub, The Beak and Barrel. Inside The Magic Kingdom park, it’s the perfect break from the heat and walking for parents. Cool off with a cocktail, immerse yourself in pirate lore AND bring the kids! I’m breaking down everything you need to know about the newest hard-to-snag reservation at Disney World.

What is The Beak and Barrel?

Opening August 29th, 2025, The Beak and Barrel is the first pub to open at The Magic Kingdom. The pub has floor-to-ceiling pirate decor and a story to go with it. The story states that The Beak and Barrel was established by Captain Merry Goldwyn, and is overseen by Rummy, her chatty parrot quartermaster. Hidden surprises await guests around every corner, servers are part of the act, and it’s the perfect excuse to dress up (and talk) like a pirate!

Each reservation at the pub is forty-five minutes, since it’s in high demand. It’s just enough time to enjoy the pirate-themed menu items, like a Plunderer’s Punch or Salty Seas mARRRgarita.

How To Score Reservations at The Beak and Barrel

Resort guests have access to Advanced Dining Reservations on the My Disney Experience app, sixty days before their stay. Reservations are officially open, but they’re in high demand. The popularity and excitement of The Magic Kingdom’s first bar mean the reservations will go quickly. Advanced Dining Reservations open at 6 AM, and you must be on top of it, making sure to prioritize The Beak and Barrel reservation first for your stay. If you’re working with a travel agent, I recommend letting them know you’re interested in The Beak and Barrel reservations.

Is The Beak and Barrel Kid-Friendly?

My kids enjoyed their time at The Beak and Barrel, but there are things to know.

The pirate pub is completely family-friendly. In fact, kids are more than welcome at The Beak and Barrel. They’re included in the fun! Cast Members ensure they feel like they’re part of the story. Our family came up with pirate names, and the kids will love the surprises throughout your reservation. The forty-five-minute reservation was the perfect amount of time for my four-year-old. By the end, they were singing and laughing while joining in the pirate story. If your kids love the ride, they’re going to love The Beak and Barrel.

The Beak and Barrel Kid-Friendly Menu Items

The Treasure Trove combines a lemonade with dessert – perfect for kids!

Cocktails are available for guests 21 and up, with proper ID, but several great menu items are non-alcoholic. Plus, there’s an allergy-friendly menu. Let your server know of any allergies and mark them on your reservation. It is not a full-meal table-service restaurant. Our reservation was midday, as a heavy late afternoon snack.

Here are pub menu items kids will love:

  • Cursed Treasure: An indulgent blend of Coconut Milk and Cookie Crumbs topped with Vanilla Foam and Pirate’s Gold. My kids drank this and said it tasted like “Cookies and Cream Milk”.
  • Treasure Trove: This is a drink and dessert combo! The drink is a mysterious Ube, Lemon, and Coconut Concoction. It’s served with a Vanilla Cake Plank, Chocolate Cannonball, and Golden Caramel Popcorn
  • Island Provisions: For something savory, order the Island Provisions appetizer. Essentially, it’s chips and dip. Plantain Chips, Blue Corn Tortillas, and Toasted Flatbread are served with Mango Chutney, Garlic Chimichurri, Spiced Guava, and Zesty Culantro Cream Dips.

Of course, the kids can order water as well! It still comes in a fun copper mug.

The Pirate Pub May Not Be Suitable for Sensitive Kids

Without spoiling surprises, The Beak and Barrel is like walking onto a stage. You’re instantly transported to Tortuga and the pirate lore. Kids who are sensitive to loud noises and flashing lights may have a difficult time at The Beak and Barrel. It’s just as much of a show as it is a pirate pub. Talk to a Cast Member before your reservation if your kids are sensitive to loudness and flashing lights.

My 4-year-old loved the pub and wasn’t scared. He may not have understood everything, but he was curious about the experience and wanted to be a part of it. Children on the autism spectrum who are sensitive to loud noises and flashing lights may find the environment inside The Beak and Barrel overwhelming.

Including The Beak and Barrel on Your Magic Kingdom Itinerary

Pirate decor is all around guests and part of The Beak and Barrel story.

For the opening, there’s a lunch and dinner menu available, but it’s the same menu items. I recommend making The Beak and Barrel a part of your Magic Kingdom itinerary in the afternoon. It’s a lovely break when you’re tired and it’s not a full meal. The Beak and Barrel is open during special ticketed events, like Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. There’s a chance reservations are easier to score during those events. However, guests must also purchase an admission party ticket to the event to attend their reservation time.
