DIY Blue’s Clues Valentines Box For Kids

Blue is our beloved dog who leaves a trail of clues to follow and now our kids are the ones who love Nick Junior Blue’s Clues. It’s been around since we were kids, but it’s made a huge comeback for the next generations. Celebrate Valentine’s Day, in the school classroom by making your own valentine box. This DIY Blue’s Clues Valentines Box is actually pretty easy to make and so adorable! Your little fan is going to love bringing it to school.

Have a Nick Jr fan? Celebrate Valentine's Day with this DIY Blue's Clues Valentines Box! Perfect for exchanging valentines.

The tradition of exchanging Valentines with other kids is one of my favorite parts of the holiday that’s about love. Sharing the love of friendship, and teaching that to kids, is what it’s all about to me. I grew up making a Valentines box every year and now I help my kids make one too.

I’m not a very crafty person, so every design has to be super simple to make. It started with a DIY Dinosaur Valentines Box and then we made an Alligator Valentines Box, followed by a Dragon Valentines Box. My oldest loves bringing his box into the classroom every year and showing off what we make together.

You don’t have to be artistic to make this Blue’s Clues Valentines Box, but you’ll have to help your pre-schooler or younger grade school child. You’ll just need a few basic supplies to make it that you can get at Walmart, Amazon or at your local box craft store.

In just a few steps, you’ll have a memorable Blue’s Clues Valentines Box that they’ll adore for a Valentines Day classroom party.

How To Make A Blue’s Clues Valentines Box For Kids

The reason I suggest helping out a pre-schooler with this craft is because you’ll be using scissors to make some shapes from construction paper. You can also use regular Elmer’s school glue for this valentines box, but a glue gun really secures the paper really well. You can decide which is best for your family.

Material Substitutions You Can Make

I’ve already mentioned that you can substitute regular school glue to use instead of glue gun. There are a few others that you can make as well. If you don’t want to invest in card stock, you can use regular construction paper.

If you can’t find bulletin board paper, you can use regular light blue construction paper. However, it will be harder to use because it won’t wrap easily (you want Christmas wrapping paper flexibility).

Step-By-Step Directions To Make Your Blue’s Clues Valentines Box

Wrap your cardboard box with the light blue bulletin board paper and secure using clear tape. Cut a slot on the side or top for Valentines (adult job only, as you might need to jab the box with scissors before cutting).

Use the PDF below to print out the shapes you’ll need to cut from the card stock paper. Use the color and left vs. right guide on the shapes to designate what needs to be cut on what card stock color.

Without gluing, set up your shapes that you cut from card stock on top of the wrapped box and place them where they need to be – using photos as your visual guide.

Use a glue stick to secure the layers of card stock shapes that you cut out, starting from the bottom layers up. This is the part the kids can do!

Lastly, use your blue marker to make some eyebrows, the mouth and legs, by hand. Kids can do this too. The mouth is like drawing an upside-down letter “M” and use the photograph to copy the legs.

Drawing Blue's Clues Valentines Box

What if my box doesn’t stand up on it’s own when I’m done? Depending on the type of box you used, you may not have it stand on it’s own by itself. You can add support on the back by gluing a smaller box, wrapped in light blue bulletin board paper, to the back. Nobody will see it, but it will give your Valentines Box support.
