Mimms Museum: Roswell’s Computer Science Museum

Last Updated on July 29, 2025 by Kimberly Stroh

As a Millennial mom, I grew up right in the heart of the digital age. Experiencing rapid technological breakthroughs as a child, I didn’t fully grasp their significance at the time. Now, at Mimms Museum, you can revisit the timeline of events that shaped the digital world we live in today. It’s a vibrant space where multiple generations can come together to explore and visually experience the incredible impact of the digital age.

Mimm's Museum is a space dedicated to the new age of technology in Roswell, GA.
From space science that gave us the Apollo 11 to super computers, Mimm’s Museum offers plenty of educational opportunities.

Tips For Visiting Mimms Museum With Kids

Located just north of Atlanta in the suburb of Roswell, Georgia, Mimms Museum began as a personal collection and has grown into a remarkable archive of thousands of digital artifacts. Each item is carefully cataloged, telling the story of its place in history and its impact on society. Whether you’re young or old, there’s something here for everyone to appreciate and connect with.

STEM Education: What Kids Will Take Away From Their Visit

I never imagined my kids would learn so much, as they did during our visit to Mimms Museum. What started as a casual family outing quickly turned into a meaningful, educational experience. The museum staff offers exceptional resources tailored to children of all ages, making complex topics accessible and engaging.

One of the highlights for us was watching my kids bond with my husband over the history of video games. Video games are a piece of technology they use daily in their lives. They were fascinated by how far gaming has come, from pixelated classics to immersive virtual reality, which they were thrilled to try for the first time.

Yet, what truly left them in awe was the powerful Tribute to Apollo 11—seeing the story of the moon landing come to life sparked so many questions and conversations.

The hands-on learning opportunities and intergenerational connection is great for parents visiting with kids. Don’t hesitate to bring the whole family. There’s a piece of history here for everyone to connect with and enjoy.

Tips For Touring The Mimms Museum With Kids

Families, school groups, and tech enthusiasts alike are welcome to explore at their own pace, though guided experiences and educational resources are also available. Here’s what to know before your visit:

  • Go at a pace that you feel comfortable with. You can always come back for more and kids digest new information at individual rates.
  • Pick a few exhibits that your kids can connect with and start with that. Our kids loved the Tribute to Apollo 11.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask the staff any questions. They can present the information in a way that kids can better relate to.
  • There are a few hands-on areas where kids can interact with the artifacts. Be sure to ask about those during your visit. You won’t want to miss out on anything!
  • To make the most of your visit, plan to spend at least 1–2 hours exploring the exhibits, and check the museum’s website or social media for upcoming events and extended hours.

Exhibits That Speak To The Digital Age Generations

What makes Mimms Museum a must-see destination near Atlanta? It’s truly a blast from the past! Step inside and you’re bound to find that one piece of technology you couldn’t live without as a kid.

My husband practically squealed with excitement when he spotted R.O.B.—the Robotic Operating Buddy—on display. Originally released in 1985 as an accessory for the Nintendo Entertainment System, R.O.B. is just one of the many nostalgic gems featured in the museum’s Timeline of Computer History.

I had my own moment of awe in the Supercomputing exhibit. As a lifelong Disney fan and former art school student, I was especially drawn to the original Pixar Image Computer. This groundbreaking machine, developed by the computer division of Lucasfilm (which later became Pixar), played a key role in revolutionizing animation as we know it.
