While some say the Savannah Georgia food scene is just now emerging, us Georgians know that it’s always been one of the best southern cities for dining. It’s the city where the old south collides with a new urban vibes and the restaurants certainly reflect that eclectic feeling. Local chefs have access to fresh seafood, are inspired by low country living and offer a farm-to-table experience. I’ve gathered the BEST spots on where to eat in Savannah, GA – you can easily plan your own walking food tour.

7 Best Savannah Georgia Food Spots You Must Try
There are two streets that are very central to all of the tourist attractions and where most of the restaurants are located near: Broughton Street and River Street.
River street has the best views and it’s a nice location where you can watch the ships come in. Oftentimes, on the weekends, you’ll see people enjoying brunch while leisurely taking in their surroundings. Broughton has City Market and it’s where a lot of the outdoor shopping is. It’s a great spot for lunch if you plan to shop around. If you’re looking for nightlife, the City Market area has you covered.
Alligator Soul (Barnard Street)
Southern meets fresh and trendy at Alligator Soul, which is located in the historic downtown area. It was first recommended to me by our neighbors and it’s one of the best dining recommendations I’ve ever received. It’s located almost underneath the city and offers an elegant and romantic setting. Each dish offers a unique flavor palate and features organic layers of deliciousness. They also offer nightly specials and wild game options.
I love their Shrimp and Grits – in fact, it’s the best version I’ve had in all of my southern travels. If you’re a fan of gin, I highly recommend the “Aviation” cocktail which features craft organic gin and maraschino liquor. All of their cocktail syrups are made in house as well.
Flying Monk Noodle Bar (Broughton Street)
Inspired by the eastern flavors of Asia, Flying Monk is where you can find noodle, rice and soups that are plentiful in both size and taste. Traditional Pho, fancy ramen noodle dishes and dumpling soups are a few guest favorites. At both lunch and dinner, you’ll find it’s always packed with hungry patrons. It’s a great casual spot that offers asian comfort food – perfect on a colder day.
Vinnie Van GoGo’s (West Bryan Street)
Located right in city market, Vinnie Van GoGo’s serve the best pizza in the city without any arguments. There’s always a line of folks trying to get a table and they keep everything very simple. It’s old-school and they only accept cash payments, but I promise, it’s worth a stop at the ATM.
They don’t compromise flavor and put the time into making everything from scratch. The dough is homemade and the mozzarella is fresh. The restaurant is completely casual and cramped for space, but you’ll enjoy every last bite of your “Neapolitan style” pizza. If you’re staying in the downtown Savannah area, they deliver pizza by bike – free of charge.
Vinnie Van GoGo’s also wins my vote for the best downtown Savannah restaurant for families. They offer high chairs as well!
Rise (Broughton Street)
Known for serving the “best dang biscuits” you won’t be disappointed in Rise as a historic Savannah breakfast spot. They serve a variety of homemade biscuit sandwiches, fried chicken and doughnuts. It’s a great budget-friendly dining spot if you’re looking for a quick morning bite. Grab your breakfast to go and enjoy on one of the nearby squares as a picnic.
Savannah Candy Kitchen (West St. Julian Street)
While there are many candy kitchens in Savannah serving up classic pralines, you can only find delicious praline gelato at the City Market location of Savannah Candy Kitchen. They make their gelato on site and offer a variety of flavors that you can sample before ordering. When in Savannah though, you have to get something praline.
This praline gelato is creamy with a brown sugar flavor and chopped pieces of their actual praline candy. It’s a sugar high in the best possible way and even a small scoop is a worth a trip. BONUS: their City Market location is right next door to Vinnie Van GoGo’s!
Savannah Bee Company Mead Tasting (River Street)
One of the best gift shops in the city also serves a flight of mead. If you’ve never tried mead before, it’s a wine made of honey. It’s one of the oldest alcoholic beverages ever known and can be served sparkling, dry or sweet. Head over the River Street location of Savannah Bee Company for a sampling of Mead. Try a flight of six for $10 and learn about the history of each sample you’re tasting.
The Olde Pink House (Abercorn)
You can’t create a list of the best Savannah Georgia food options without this staple! As one of Savannah’s most iconic buildings, The Olde Pink House has history that dates back to 1771. Dine alongside spirits of the past as you enjoy one of the historic district’s fine dining locations. They’re known for fresh seafood and nightly chef specials. A quick look on Instagram and you’ll see why this building is so famous. The beautiful Jamaican pink color on the outside invites guests to a one-of-a-kind dining experience. Advanced reservations are recommended.
