I had the pleasure of previewing the movie, Leap!, and it surpassed all of my expectations. Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect from the trailer and went into the theater with an open mind. The producers, The Weinstein Company, was unfamiliar to me. If you’ve got kids that love adventure and dreaming big – Leap! is for them.
Leap! Synopsis
11-year-old orphan, Félicie (Elle Fanning) has one dream – to go to Paris and become a dancer. Her best friend Victor (Nat Wolff), an imaginative but exhausting boy with a passion for creating, has a dream of his own – to become a famous inventor. In a leap of faith, Victor and Félicie leave their orphanage in pursuit of their passions. But – there’s a catch, Félicie must pretend to be the child of a wealthy family in order to gain admittance to the prestigious and competitive Opera Ballet School in Paris. And with no professional dance training, she quickly learns that talent alone is not enough to overcome the ruthless, conniving attitudes of her fellow classmates, led by the devious Camille Le Haut (Maddie Ziegler) and her wicked mother Régine (Kate McKinnon). Determined to succeed, Félicie finds her mentor in the tough and mysterious school custodian, Odette (Carly Rae Jepsen) who, along with Victor’s encouraging friendship, help her reach for the stars.
Leap! Official Trailer
I have to admit, I may be partial to the film because I was a ballet major in college. The dream of dancing in the ballet is quite familiar. Félicie, the main character, loves to dream big. The storyline follows her adventure to Paris. It’s as much of a coming to age story as it is about her love for ballet. She has to practice and work hard for her dream, while dealing with life lessons along the way.
The movie is perfect for kids that have big hopes and dreams. I do think the film is slanted more towards girls, but the story is relatable for anyone. My Husband saw the movie with me and also enjoyed it.
Leap! hits theaters everywhere August 25th! It’s 89 minutes long and rated PG.
