Tips For Using Candy Melts

When working with candy melts, be sure to melt them slowly to avoid overheating, which can cause the candy to seize or thicken. Use a microwave-safe bowl and heat in short intervals, stirring well between each round until smooth.

If the melts seem too thick, a small amount of shortening or coconut oil can help thin them out. Always keep water away from candy melts, as even a drop can ruin the texture, and work quickly while they’re warm for the best results.

Variations & Storage Tips

  • These Pretzel Christmas Trees are best enjoyed fresh, but they can be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for 3–4 days.
  • You can decorate these Pretzel Christmas Trees with other edible toppings such as sprinkles, gumdrops, or chocolate chips.
  • When placing the pretzel rod on top of the other pretzels, try to keep the side with the least amount of chocolate facing up. This helps the trees lie flat once they are turned right-side up.

How To Make Pretzel Christmas Tree Treats (Step-by-Step)

Lay a sheet of parchment paper on a baking sheet or tray. Melt the Green melting chocolate in 30-second intervals, in a bowl that’s safe to use in the microwave.

Using a fork, dip the pretzel twist in the green chocolate. When lifting the pretzel, do not scrape off too much excess chocolate; place it on the sheet of parchment paper. The excess chocolate will help the pretzels stay connected.

Arranging the pretzels into a tree shape triangle

Dip the next pretzel in the chocolate and place it directly below the 1st pretzel. They should touch each other. Dip the another pretzel in the chocolate and place it next to the previous pretzel. Repeat this dipping-and-placing process for the next row of 3 pretzels. The rows should be as follows: First row 1 pretzel, Second row 2 pretzels, and Third row 3 pretzels.

Let the chocolate-covered pretzels sit for 10 minutes to dry. Once the pretzel twists are dry. Turn them over on the parchment paper.

Cut or break the pretzel rods about 3/4 of the way. Dip the larger pretzel rod pieces into the melted green chocolate, scrape of the excess and place them on the back of the chocolate covered pretzel twist. Let some of the brown stick out the bottom to represent a tree stump. Let the trees sit for 8 minutes to dry.

Melt the yellow chocolate as above, then place it in a piping bag and cut a tiny hole at the tip. On a clean sheet of parchment paper, pipe some medium-sized stars. These should take 2-3 minutes to dry.

Next, melt and bag the black chocolate the same way you did the yellow chocolate. Turn the pretzel trees over and pipe lines diagonally across them. While the chocolate is wet place the candy coated chocolate randomly on the lines.

Adding the christmas lights and string

Pipe a yellow circle at the top of the pretzel Christmas trees, carefully remove the stars from the parchment paper, and place them on the yellow circle. Let the stars sit for 2 minutes to dry.
