2016 has been quite the year for me so far. I opened the new year with my first marathon. That was such an accomplishment for me and I knew exactly how I would celebrate that achievement- by having a baby.
Just because I’m about to POP with baby boy #2 doesn’t mean that I haven’t run much this year. In fact, I’m proud that I still managed to run a 5k, 4-miler, 2 half marathons and 1 full marathon in 2016. Compared to my last pregnancy, that makes me look like an Olympian!
Which leads me to the end of 2016…
My due date is November 29th, but I have some strong indications that this little guy is going to come early. I’ve doing the best I can to stay active through walking and light weights.
So I’ve got one more big goal for 2016: I plan to walk the Jeff Galloway Half Marathon, in Atlanta, in December. I ran the race last year and it’s such a well organized race that caters to all runners and walkers.
Jeff Galloway’s Half Marathon is completely walker-friendly and I’m the type of person who needs a little kick in the butt to get going again. So if you’re doing the math, I’ll only be a few weeks postpartum. It’ll be important that I listen to my body and just walk those hills of Atlanta. But it’ll feel good to get one more big race in for the year and set the tone for my Spring 2017 training.
I’m looking forward to starting my postpartum fitness journey with a half marathon. My goal is to take it one step at a time and finish standing. Then I can start running again in late December.
Tell me! What goals do you have for the end of the year?
