Even though it’s my slower season, my training continues all Summer long for upcoming races. It feels like the humidity and heat is just building up in Atlanta and we’ll be in for another hot one! It doesn’t stop me from taking my runs outside though. It’s important to my training that I still make it a priority to get outside and off of the treadmill.
One of my biggest concerns with Summer running is how to stay hydrated. Hydration is crucial to staying healthy and maintaining the function of every system in your body, including your heart, brain, and muscles. I can really feel a difference in my training if I’m not properly hydrated. Hydration can make or break me during a race too. Every runner needs to focus on the importance of hydration during the Summer – it’s non negotiable.
BodyArmor is my choice of beverage to suit my hydration needs. BodyArmor is a premium sports drink that provides superior hydration. It is packed with electrolytes, coconut water and vitamins and is low in sodium and high in potassium. BODYARMOR contains natural flavors and sweeteners and no colors from artificial sources. It’s something that I can feel good about putting in my body.
Their lighter version, BODYARMOR LYTE, has all the same nutrients as BODYARMOR. It is naturally sweetened and has only 20 calories per serving. It contains coconut water, electrolytes and vitamins. Try it as the perfect drink to replenish your body after a quick run or gym class.

How to Stay Hydrated on Summer Runs
Start Hydrating Beforehand
Don’t hydrate at the last minute. Stay hydrated around the clock with fluids. I like to fill a big half gallon water bottle and keep it by my desk all day long. When you’re sweating and active, that’s when you can add BODYARMOR.
Set a Timer
There are apps that specialize in reminding you to drink with alarms. Set a timer to remind yourself to drink around the clock.
Eat Fruit
Fruit has a high water content and can add to your hydration levels. If you pick fruits like bananas or dates, you’ll also get the added benefits of potassium. That will help prevent any cramping.
Pay Attention to Your Muscles
Staying hydrated helps prevent decline in performance during exercise. When your muscles feel tired, try drinking and resting for a bit.
Check Your Skins Elasticity
Want to know if you’re hydrated? Using your pointer finger and thumb, pinch the skin on the back of your hand and hold for a few seconds. When you let go, if the skin takes a while to return to its normal position, you may be dehydrated. Replenish with BODYARMOR to restore hydration.
Mix it Up
Hydration doesn’t have to be boring. Try adding fresh fruit to your water for added flavor. Or freeze BODYARMOR in popsicle trays to enjoy after a long Summer run.
