Since I’ve adopted a healthier lifestyle after becoming a Mom, it’s been important to me to reinforce it within our family activities as well. I’m a true believer that leading by example is important and young kids are always watching. From what I eat to my stress levels and fitness, they are mimicking the decisions I make. I’ve got some awesome tips for bonding through family exercise. Plus, I’m teaming up with 4-H for their 30 Days of Doing initiative, which kicks off their Inspire Kids to Do campaign.

How To Bond Through Family Exercise
My Favorite Way to Exercise With My Kids
Running is my favorite sport and it’s changed my life for the better. I’ve used it as a tool to connect on a deeper level with my child and teaching him the importance of being healthy. In my experience, since running and walking are natural, it’s a great way to get kids moving.
Most kids like to do things with an adult. By running comfortably with a child you can positively imprint exercise as a natural and expected part of the daily routine, that is fun. Kids who exercise tend to have better self esteem, better grades, and are happier. The most powerful reward for most kids is the special attention an adult gives to a child during and after exercising together.

How To Jumpstart With 4-H “30 Days of Doing”
I’ve already expressed how much I admire the new 4-H Wellness 360º program – it truly takes a multi-dimensional approach to youth health. From nutrition education, to yoga and lessons on avoiding risky behaviors, 4-H Wellness 360º, supported by Target, provides the essentials to make sure today’s youth have the knowledge and confidence to not only live a healthy life themselves, but to also help share their knowledge with their peers and families. That is something VERY powerful!
The 30 Days of Doing is the official launch of 4-H’s year-long national campaign, “Inspire Kids to Do.” 30 Days of Doing celebrates ALL kids who “do” with purpose. It offers fun tools, tips, resources and stories for moms and kids. The movement is meant to inspire and kickstart a healthier way of life.
Yet, it goes way beyond thirty days. 4-H’s Inspire Kids to Do Campaign gives kids more opportunities to do and helps grow leaders ready to navigate life and career – beyond youth. This movement will pave the path for 4-H to empower 10 million true leaders, youth who do with a purpose to navigate life challenges, pursue passions and contribute to the world around them, by 2025.

Now is the time to learn more and join 4-H and their 30 Days of Doing. It’s really easy to connect with the community and learn more:
- 4-H is kicking off 30 Days of Doing with a Twitter Party! To join, simply log in to Twitter on Aug. 28 from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m. EST and search the party hashtags (#gno, #30DaysofDoing) and start engaging in the conversation with other moms. Build your “To Do” list and get fun, skill-building ideas for your kids. Get ready to be inspired, meet fellow doers and win prizes. Maybe you’ll be inspired to move more, with your kids, like I am.
When you’re working on your 30 Days of Doing, inspire kids to DO by engaging in hands-on, positive learning activities related to health, wellness and more. I love the idea of family exercise, learning about healthy eating while grocery shopping and cooking together.
Download 4-H’s “Inspire to Do” list to get started. Plus, be sure to enter the photo contest at 4H.org/InspireKidstoDo on September 1 – 30. You could win a $10,000 scholarship for your kid.
