Run Disney runners are reporting that there were no character stops at Tink 5k this morning, on the course. The Neverland themed 5k course runs through Disneyland park and it’s a popular race amongst families. To everyone’s surprise this morning, Run Disney did not place characters on the course.
Runners took to social media to express their upset feelings. Some runners even claimed it was “false advertising” and they wanted to ask Run Disney for a race refund. Parents were upset that their kids weren’t getting the full experience. Other claimed it was a “waste of money.”
Run Disney also confirmed (at this morning’s 5k race) that the Tinkerbell 10k race will not have characters as well. Some participants speculated that this was due to so many runners being swept from races. It clearly states, on Run Disney’s website, that on course characters are part of your registration fee.
I can see where the disappointment lies.
Why is There no Character Stops at Tink 5k?
None of us know why Run Disney made this decision, but it’s clear that fans are shocked by the decision. Paying $80 for a 5k, plus travel expenses, is awfully hefty for no signature Run Disney experiences.
It will be interesting to see if this was a one time event or if things are changing for Run Disney races. This Tinkerbell Half Marathon weekend also marks the end of unpaid volunteers working the races. They hired temporary workers, through staffing agencies, to work the races.
I know change can get good, but taking out character photo opportunities is a surprise to the runners.
I am traveling to Disneyland now and I will be reporting more information about the 10k and Half Marathon this weekend. You can follow my Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for up-to-date information.
What do you think of a Run Disney race with no Character stops?
