Every summer, there’s a battle between screen time and my kids. I’m always looking for alternative entertainment that’s still fun, but also adds a bit of learning. I’ve been on the hunt for a few summer reading options that fit the bill and ‘The Adventures of Rockford T. Honeypot‘ made the list. Author Josh Gottsegen gifted us the book in exchange for our honest opinion. While we’re still in the middle of reading the young adult novel, I already know it’s a keeper!
The Adventures of Rockford T. Honeypot Review
My six-year-old just made the transition from picture books to chapter books, so we’re reading this one together. The author brings together fun adventures amongst an imaginative fictional world that captures the heart of young readers.
Thrown into the mix are a few great life lessons as well (like the topic of bullying). The main character of ‘The Adventures of Rockford T. Honeypot’ is Rockford T. Honeypot who is a wise old chipmunk. He shares his life story while also educating his Grandson, Theo.
While we’re just half-way through the book, my son is already asking for more than a chapter per night. He’s on the younger side of age range to enjoy ‘The Adventures of Rockford T. Honeypot’ but together, he’s able to fully understand and enjoy the book. There are a few big words that we broke down, but we’re always up for a little challenge together.
It’s been the perfect excuse to escape summer screen time while keeping my son’s attention. I’ve really enjoyed the opportunity to spend some quality time together while reading. I’m positive that the captivating adventures of Rockford will touch everyone’s heart.
Official Book Synopsis:
As a young chipmunk, shy, bookish Rockford T. Honeypot had dreams of thrilling adventures across the forest. However, timid of danger and germs, his only adventures were found in books and his imagination. When his family abandons him after a mistake that destroys their hazelnut business, Rockford sets off on a legendary journey beyond his wildest dreams. From exploring cuisines with a famous chef, training with ancient warrior monks, flying on giant hawks, finding true love, and much more, Rockford recounts his epic origin story of hardship, perseverance, and fortune.
