Savannah Women’s Half & 5k Race Recap
I love my hometown, but running in Atlanta isn’t fun. We’re always dealing with hills, heat and humidity. Seriously though, the hills are never-ending. When I heard that the Savannah Women’s Half Marathon & 5k was flat, I knew I had to give it a go. This year was my second time participating and I love it.
What It’s Like Running In Savannah Georgia
Savannah is one of the most beautiful cities in the south. There’s southern charm around every corner and a great mix of art throughout the city. The Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon & 5k is a tour of the historic district. You start in Forsyth Park – the city’s primary green space – and winds throughout historic building and shopping areas.
I love noticing little things during the race. I saw the first chapter of Girl Scouts of America along the course. I also spied a delicious brunch spot on Broughton Street which was my post-race destination of choice.
The Race Favors Fast Runners But Designed For All
Obviously, I like to take things leisurely. I run and walk the entire course. However, you can’t help but to notice that some runners are trying to qualify for Boston. Whether you’re in the front of the race or in the back of the pack, it’s a great race. It’s flat and fast and that’s why so many competitive runners seek it out.
It’s also the perfect race for a girl’s weekend. I love making an entire weekend around the race and exploring the city. Savannah sightseeing includes great shopping, dining and historical tours.
On Sunday morning, they offer Yoga in the Square which is included with your race registration. It’s a great way to end a weekend that’s centered around wellness and fun.
