Rise Of The Resistance Fast Passes: How To Ride Without Them At Disney World

Last Updated on June 29, 2021 by Kimberly Stroh

Walt Disney World’s newest groundbreaking attraction, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, is making it’s debut and fans are already going nuts about the ride. The highly anticipated attraction, which is located in Galaxy’s Edge (inside Hollywood Studios), is an immersive ride that allows guests to be a part of Star Wars action. If you want to make it part of your touring plans, here’s how to get around Rise of The Resistance Fast Passes not being offered yet.

In Rise of the Resistance, guests can join a climactic battle between the Resistance and the First Order. The ride sets a new standard in theme parks and breaks barriers – combining cinematic theming with ride technology.

Fast Passes allow guests to select an allotted time to return to an attraction. They can be secured 60 days in advance (with a resort reservation) or 30 days in advance without a resort reservation. Guests have to use their active My Disney Experience App to select your fast passes for each member of your party.

With Galaxy’s Edge just opening, Walt Disney World has opted not to allow guests to use Fast Pass+. Hopefully, in the near future, that will be an option!

Rise Of The Resistance Opening Date

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance brings guests into the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance, including a faceoff with Kylo Ren. The journey takes guests aboard a full-size transport shuttle and then into a nearby Star Destroyer on a thrilling adventure that blurs the lines between fantasy and reality.

One of the most immersive, ambitious and technologically advanced experiences in Disney history, the attraction uses multiple ride systems working together to create a seamless story on a cinematic scale. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opens Dec. 5, 2019, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida and Jan. 17, 2020, at Disneyland Park in California.

How To Ride Without Rise Of The Resistance Fast Passes

Unlimited Time In Galaxy’s Edge

With the popularity of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, guests have to sometimes enter a virtual queue before being allowed to enter the land. The virtual queue is not a physical line, so you can enjoy the rest of Walt Disney World Resort until it is your turn to enter.

Hollywood Studios park tickets must be purchased in order to enjoy any of the attractions at Galaxy’s Edge. After entering Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you can request to join the virtual queue and will be assigned a boarding group, either with the My Disney Experience app or by visiting a Guest Experience Team kiosk.

Admission into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is subject to capacity. Being assigned to a boarding group does not guarantee entrance to the land, its attractions or its experiences. You can check the app and in-park signs to see which boarding group is currently being admitted to Galaxy’s Edge.

Once your boarding group is called, you have 2 hours to enter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at the entrance. There is no time limit to enjoy Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge after you have entered the land. Which means that you can wait for the ride, even without Rise Of The Resistance Fast Passes.

Since there is unlimited time in Galaxy’s Edge, once you’re admitted to the area, I’d plan for at least 4-6 hours of time to spend, if you’re planning to ride either Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run or Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

Currently, they are using a virtual queue system for the Rise of the Resistance attraction. Here’s how it works:

  • Using the My Disney Experience App, guests can join the queue as soon as they enter the park. The spots are filled up fast, you arrive to the gates 90 minutes before it opens. You have to be physically in the park too.
  • Once you join the queue, you’ll be assigned to a “Boarding Group”
  • When it is time for your “Boarding Group” to take flight, you’ll receive a push notification with a 2 hour return window.
  • You can keep track of what Boarding Group is currently being allowed on via the app – that gives you time to explore other areas of Galaxy’s Edge or Hollywood Studios.

Rise Of The Resistance Single Rider Line & Extra Magic Hours

Unfortunately, Rise of the Resistance will not be a part of Extra Magic Hours. Eventually, Fast Passes will be offered for the attraction!

If you’ve ever done a Disney World VIP Tour, you’ll know that one of the great advantages it has is that you can skip the lines of whatever attraction you want to ride. Guests that are part of a VIP Tour will NOT be able to skip the lines for Rise of the Resistance like all the other attractions and will have to wait in line.

Upon opening of the attraction, there is no single rider option available. Eventually, this will probably be the BEST WAY to ride without Rise of the Resistance Fast Passes. Once crowds dissipate, they might open a single rider line – we have to watch.

The Queue Line & Experience

Guests don’t want to miss all of the amazing details that imagineers put into the attraction. As guests move through the queue in Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, they see flight suits and other military equipment inside the Resistance encampment. The queue sets the stage before they become part of the attraction.

This is something that Disney has perfected as guests have had to wait through longer queue lines than ever before (like at Animal Kingdom’s Flight of Passage).
