Paw Patrol Live Atlanta Interview: Tony Ardolino
Q: Did you always grow up in theater? How did your passion evolve?
I actually grew up in a sports household. My parents and brothers are all really athletic and I grew up playing baseball alot. But, while I was in elementary school, we saw a live version of Beauty and the Beast. I remember I went to day care right after school and told all the other kids we were going to put on a show for our parents. After that my mom started putting me in acting and singing classes all over New Jersey. I’m very fortunate to have such supporting parents and couldn’t be happier. I love theater but I have also worked in film, TV, voice overs, and a whole bunch of commercials. It’s been a blast!
Q:Where Are you from?
I was born and raised in New Jersey in the little town of Oak Ridge. I’ve also lived in Los Angeles for five years and Singapore for two years, but no matter where I am, I’ll always be a Jersey boy at heart.
Q: Have you toured through the city of Atlanta previously?
No, this is our first time bringing PAW Patrol Live! “The Great Pirate Adventure” to Atlanta and we couldn’t be more excited.
Q: How did you prepare for your role in Paw Patrol Live The great pirate advenuture?
Well of course I watched a lot of PAW Patrol! But I also had to brush up on my dancing and singing. Even though this show is for kids, it still is a full musical. So I had to make sure my body and voice were prepared for several shows a day.
Q: Tell us more about the shows story line- do you sing and dance?
Well it’s Pirate Day in Adventure Bay and Ryder and his Pups have found a treasure map that leads to Long John Larry’s Hidden treasure chest.
The PAW Patrol then go on an adventure of a life time through jungles, caves, and even the high seas to make sure they get to thetreasurebefore Mayor Humdinger takes it all for himself. The show features some amazing music that is hard not to dance too. We sing live and encourage the audienceto get up on their feet and dance along with us. It’s a pirate party!
Q: I know the pups are always saving the day, do they find advenuture in the show?
It’s pretty hard not to find adventure in Adventure Bay. There is adventure around every corner in our show. From savingCaptainTurbot in a hidden pirate cavern, to diving under the sea with Zuma to sing and dance with Mer-pups. We even meet up with one of our other pups, “Tracker” in the jungle while we get stuck in quick sand. But like I said, Ryder and the Pups never get bored of having an Adventure.
Q: How does it feel to have young kids look up to you and enjoy the show?
It’s such an amazing feeling to be a role model for these kids. Ryder is smart, positive, and always lends a helping hand no matter what. He is a leader and a hero and I am so thankful I get to be seen in the eyes of these kids in that way. I always get chills when I come out for the first time and hear all the kids go “Mommy look, its Ryder!” To them I’m this amazing hero that believes anything is possible as long as you give it your all. It’s literally the coolest feeling and honestly the closest thing to magic I’veever experienced.
Q: Do you have a favorite memory about meeting a fan?
I like to think every single fan and I have a special and fun moment when we meet, but one of my favoritememories happened in Canada. This little boy gave me a kiwi! Random, right?! But apparently he woke up that morning and told his Mother that he wanted to give Ryder a kiwi. So he brought a Kiwi to the show And every timeI came on stage he told his mom “when am I gonna be able to give Ryder the kiwi?” His mom didn’t think he was going to meet Ryder but insisted that maybe after the show he would see me. When the show ended she was about to tell him that they weren’t going to be able to meet Ryder. But by a lucky chance they ran into me in the lobby as I made my way to VIP. The little boy ran to me and gave me the kiwi and his mother told me this whole story. I thought it was the cutest thing ever.
Another cute story is that after [a] show I asked a little boy “Hey! Did you have fun today?” he replied with “yeah!” I then asked “what was your favorite part?” And he answered “well…before the show we went to McDonald’s.” I tried my hardest not to laugh.
Q: Do you have any plans to sightsee when you’re visiting Atlanta?
Yes, and I am beyond excited to explore this beautiful city. I am really looking forward to the Botanical Gardens and possibly going on a southern food tour to experience the local cuisine.
Q: What is your favorite part of the show?
One of my favorite parts of the show is the beginningof Act 2 when the curtain opens and the audience sees the pirate ship for the first time. The kids are always jumping for joy and the parents are always taking pictures-cause it’s that cool. It’s one of the highlights of the show to see all your favorite characters dressed in pirate outfits aboard a grand ship on its way to find the treasure! Sometimes I look around and see myself standing there holding the wheel of a pirate ship and I can’t help think to myself, “This is the coolest thing in the world. How lucky am I?”
