Avalon has quickly become our new premiere shopping and entertainment destination here in Atlanta. I love the atmosphere of the outdoor shopping combined with endless enclaves of places to hang out. We often go for dinner, shopping or the Adventure Run with Road Runner Sports. Every family member has a great time when we go to Avalon, and Tuesday morning was no exception.
Little Acorns, is Avalon’s program for the young children and they offer an event at 10am on Tuesday mornings. My Mom and I decided it would be a fun event to take JP to. This week’s Little Acorns theme was “Literacy Day”. I had just found out about it that morning via Twitter and had no prior expectations.
Avalon has the perfect green space for the toddlers to run around in. We all met on the green turf and they had play equipment set up for the kids to play on. I have never seen so many toddlers having such a great time!
They had face painting stations, coloring tables and music playing for the kids to enjoy. JP was a little overwhelmed at first by all of the excitement. After a few minutes though, he was running around like he owned the place. It was fantastic weather for a fun outdoors event. There were just as many smiles coming from the parents as well as the kids.
The highlight of the morning were the guest readers that came for Literacy Day. Rachel Stockman from WSB-tv and David Isle, the Mayor of Alpharetta, joined Little Acorns to read books to the children. It was great to see leaders of our community read to the kids and interact with them.
Page Turners is the great organization that helped make Literacy Day a sucessful event. Page Turners Makes Great Learners is on a mission to help kids find the joy of reading. Page Turners provided each child with a book to take home after the event. I was blown away that JP got to pick out a brand new book that we could enjoy together at home. We picked the same book that the Mayor read to us.
We had a fantastic time at our First Little Acorns event. We’ll definitely be attending the future kids events at the Avalon.
