Family entertainment is a big deal for us. Getting the family together to do something fun and relaxing is the perfect way to celebrate the weekend. With two kids now, we oftentimes feel like we’re overpaying for entertainment though. We are always looking to save some money but keep having fun. Isn’t that every parent’s goal?
If you recall, we decided to put our tax refund to work and stretch it out by switching to Walmart Family Mobile. We purchased the Samsung Galaxy On5 ($119 regular price) in our local store. Since Family Mobile bills you later, you only have to pay $19.88 (for the SIM kit) when you sign up in store. It may seem backwards to spend money, in order to save money, but it’s cutting our monthly spending.
By saving on our monthly cellular costs, with the Unlimited* Talk, Text & Data (*includes up to 10GB of 4G LTE then 2G) for $49.88 per month and per line, we’ve had more play money for family fun. The extra data has been so useful for our day-to-day activities, like streaming games or using social media, without feeling like we’re overpaying for it.
That’s priceless for us! Plus, the free movie credit on VUDU ($7 value), that is included, let’s us plan a family movie night once a month. We don’t have to buy a new release rental anymore- love that! I have a movie to watch at my fingertips, on my Samsung Galaxy On5.
With the awesome Spring weather starting to roll in, I’m planning an outdoor movie night this month. It’s a fun way to use our VUDU movie credit, relax as a family and make some memories. My favorite part is not worrying about spills or messes happening in my living room. It just takes a little bit of planning and you can easily set one up in your own backyard.
Tips to Create an Outdoor Movie Night
Plan Your Snacks
You can’t have an outdoor movie night without some snacks! When you are going outdoors, it’s important to think of snacks that don’t require utensils or make a big mess. You don’t want to run back inside constantly. I made the kids popcorn bags and fresh lemonade, served with lollipops and candy. The individual bags makes it easy to serve and it doesn’t require anything else.
Make a Comfortable Area
Think about a spot that is comfortable for both kids and adults. I made an area on the floor with cushions, for the kids, but placed chairs around it for the adults. You can use a cloth, beach towel or blanket to create the space. I purchased fabric for it, so if it gets ruined I can just toss it.
Set the Mood
Make outdoor movie night fun, by adding some details! I used some string lights to keep it bright as the sun went down. You wrap them around trees or posts. Plus, it makes it feel like a special occasion for the kids. The lights add an enchanting glow over the area.
Set Up a Projector and Screen
Position the projector in a secure location where it won’t be bumped or knocked by moviegoers. You can project the image onto a screen our canvas. Don’t forget to calibrate your projector so you don’t have a blurry picture. We streamed though a VUDU Spark (TM) to the projector, but you could use a similar compatable device.
I’m so happy that we made the switch to Walmart Family Mobile. It was effortless, saves us money monthly and helps keep our family entertained. We truly made our tax dollars stretch this year! If you want to do the same, you can find Walmart Family Mobile and the Samsung Galaxy On5 at your local Walmart location.
