Every fall, we head to North Georgia to pick our apples for the season. As much as I love a raw apple and nut butter snack, it’s fun to play in the kitchen and make some new seasonal creations. I grab the kids and let them come up with some creative flavors for this Homemade Caramel Apples recipe. You can use any type of candy topping and they make a delicious sweet treat once sliced!

How To Make This Homemade Caramel Apples Recipe
Unwrap two bags of Kraft Cooking Caramels. You’ll also need 4-5 apples of your pick (I prefer Fuji or Honeycrisp apples), Wooden Candy Apple Skewers, your favorite type of candies (chopped to pieces), white chocolate chips and milk chocolate chips. If you’d like to make them more decorative, I used patterned paper straws as a finishing touch.
Prepare wax paper on top of a plate that’s been coated with a light touch of non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
Typically, you can find them in the seasonal section with Halloween candy. Add the unwrapped caramels to a glass bowl. Wash your apples, dry well and set aside (this helps the caramel stick easily).
Melt the caramels for 2-3 minutes, stirring between each minute. It’ll be a thick and sticky consistency after they’re completely melted.
Add your skewer into the apple core. Holding onto the skewer in one hand, carefully dip into the caramel.
Let any excess caramel drop back into the bowl as you swirl the apple over the bowl. Next, dip the caramel covered apple into the chopped candy pieces. I used one bowl of chopped peanuts, a bowl of chopped Kit Kat and Reece’s Pieces candy.
Place your dipped caramel apple bottom-side down on the wax paper. Repeat steps with remaining apples. Place into the refrigerator for one hour. Remove from the refrigerator and melt your chocolate toppings. I used white chocolate chips and milk chocolate chips. Dip a fork into the melted chocolates and swirl over the candy coated caramel apples.
To finish, add your straw over the wooden skewer and cut to the same height at the skewer. Cover the homemade caramel apples with plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator. If they’re a gift, just add a ribbon bow. When you’re ready to serve, let the apples come to room temperature for 15 minutes and then slice into individual servings.
Homemade Caramel Apples Recipe: Candy Coated To Perfection
These easy homemade caramel apples are made with the microwave instead of the stovetop and coated with candy.
Ingredients
- 5 Apples (Fuji or Honeycrisp)
- 1 Bag Of Wooden Apple Skewers

- 1 1/2 Cups of Candy (per variety - your preference)
- 1 Cup of White Chocolate Chips
- 1 Cup of Milk Chocolate Chips
