How to make your own homemade apple pie moonshine - the perfect fall cocktail. Makes a large batch, which is great for parties and holiday gift giving.

I can’t take the credit for this delicious drink recipe. My Husband is a moonshine connoisseur and grew up in the south. There’s a rich history of moonshine running in the south and it’s almost like part of our culture in the south. After all, it’s what inspired the start of NASCAR too. You can find moonshine cocktails in many southern restaurants as well.

Every fall, after apple picking, he’s in the kitchen making a big batch of this Apple Pie Moonshine recipe. We pass some out to the neighbors, as gifts, and keep a jars for ourselves. He makes the ‘shine and I just wrap the bow around it.

How To Make Homemade Apple Pie Moonshine

For this recipe, you’ll need to use cheese cloth, twine and a large stock pot. The cheese cloth helps to hold all of the spices, so they can be easily pulled but the essence of the spices will remain. Find the biggest stock pot you can get and that’s the one you’ll need (mine is 12 quarts).

Making your own homemade moonshine, with grain alcohol, is completely legal. You aren’t distilling any moonshine, which requires a license. Essentially, you’re making a very potent (kick ass) cocktail!

When To Make Apple Moonshine

This recipe is best in the fall, but it will keep such a long time in the refrigerator. So if you want to pass it out as gifts in the fall, but make it ahead of time, go ahead and make it during the summer months. Just shake it once it’s sat in the fridge for a while. I make batches of Apple Pie Moonshine from September to November with our fresh apples.

How To Store Apple Pie Moonshine

Purchase and sanitize mason jars with lids to pour your moonshine into. The 16oz size makes a great gift and that’s usually what we use. Once the mason jars have reached room temperature (after pouring hot moonshine into them), place the shine in the refrigerator. Keep the lids on the jars. Shake the moonshine before serving.

How Long Does Apple Pie Shine Last?

The grain alcohol acts as a preservative. If you keep the moonshine stored correctly, you can enjoy it for up to a year. Be sure that lids are tightened tight. Do NOT freeze your Apple Pie Moonshine because it will expand and crack the mason jars.

What Pairs Well With Apple Pie Moonshine

If you want to pair it, as a cocktail alongside a meal, I like the idea of serving it with my Apple Sheet Pan Dinner. Or if you’d like to serve it as a dessert, pair it with traditional campfire s’mores. With the rise of popularity of country music, shine has really become popular too.

Directions To Make Apple Pie Moonshine

Add the cinnamon sticks to cheese cloth and tie with twine (if you don’t have cheese cloth, you can pull the sticks out with a spoon). Add all ingredients excluding the alcohol in a large pot; bring to a boil. The more cinnamon sticks you add, the spicier it will be. Cover pot and simmer for about 45 minutes. Allow to cool.

Stir in grain alcohol components into the mix and pull the cinnamon sticks. Pour into 16oz mason jars and tightly secure the lids. Mellow in the refrigerator until cool. The moonshine will last up to six months, sealed, in the refrigerator.
