I cannot believe I’ve been a Mom for four years now. It seems like just yesterday when my oldest, JP, was born. He will always be the one who made me a Mom and I am forever grateful for the experience. Sometimes, I wish I could go back in time and tell myself that life as a Mom will be great.
New Moms need reassuring for the unknown. It can be scary when you’re pregnant for the first time. It’s hard to transition from being independent and selfish to having a baby. I went through a phase of self-doubt where I wondered if we’d even be great parents. Luckily, since JP has been the apple of our eye, he has taught us so much about the type of parents we want to be. I’m so proud to be his Mom and the kid he’s become.
Highlights From the Past Year
Dinosaurs, Dragons and Alligators – Oh My
I never imagined I’d carry an array of reptiles in my bag at all times. JP loves dinosaurs, dragons and alligators. He knows more about dinosaurs than anyone I know. He loves to pretend and build ‘dinosaur zoos’ with me. Whenever he meets someone new, he always asks what their favorite dinosaur is. It’s part of his charm and I’ve grown to love that about him.
Loves His Daddy
It’s not a competition, but I can say that JP loves his Dad. He looks up to my Husband and tries so hard to please him in everything he does. It’s a joy to watch my Husband teach him how to be a good kid. I’ll admit that sometimes I get jealous of their bond, but it’s awesome they have that together.
The Kid Has Empathy
My Husband and I talk about how much empathy and love he has for others. It’s amazing and I don’t think we taught it to him. It’s one of his best qualities. He has shown so much compassion for his Grandfather, who has Parkinson’s. He always tries to help, wants to give back and shows concern when others are hurt. JP is such a blessing to our family.
The Best Big Brother
The best part of the past year, was watching JP grow as a big Brother. He didn’t know what to think of Charlie when we introduced them, but now he shines as a big Brother. They laugh and play together – it’s the most heartwarming thing to watch. It’s just the beginning and I can’t wait to watch them grow even closer. I hope they’ll be best buds.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JP! NEVER LET ANYONE CHANGE YOU.
See how we celebrated my youngest’s first birthday!
