My Husband introduced me to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has confirmed that I’m a fan girl. If you saw first Guardians of the Galaxy movie and liked it, then you’ll love this one. I’ll go ahead and say it- this one surpasses the first one. You’re immediately blown away by the impressive visuals. The sci-fi film is full of beautiful colors and action sequences from the beginning. The audience is also immediately reminded of the family-like relationships that the Guardians have together.

Baby Groot steals the show for cuteness factor and I love how Drex had a bigger role in this film. All of the characters played an equally important part to the storyline, which is important for the overall theme.

The Storyline

I’ve already stated that I love this movie more than the first, but that was an unexpected surprise. Marvel hit it home with the storyline. It’s the selling point for the movie. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 gives you all of the feels. There’s plenty of laughter, moments of suspense and even sadness.

We’re introduced to a new character, Ego The Living Planet, played by Kurt Russell, who turns out to be Star-Lord’s Dad. The Guardians split up so Peter Quill can go learn more about his past. The relationship dynamics between the team grow as they learn more about themselves. The same relationship tension between Quill and Gamora still exists from the first movie and Yondu also returns.

There’s definitely some storyline surprises that I can’t share with you, but it answers questions form the first movie. In other words, go watch Vol. 1 if you haven’t yet. My favorite character? I love kick-ass Gamora as a supporting actress. She seems to keep Peter in line and watches his back. Of course, Baby Groot is most adorable though.

PG-13 Rating – Is it Safe for Young Kids?

I’m going to be honest- there is a lot of death in the action scenes. It’s all fictional though and didn’t bother me as a Mom. However, there was a lot of curse words thrown around (no F-Bomb). There’s also a vague hint of a sexual scenario, but nothing “in your face.”

If you’re a parent that doesn’t mind the cursing, take your kids. Especially if they have already seen the first film. If you have a teen, it’s a can’t miss Summer movie for them.
