The Princess Half Marathon was my first half and will always be my favorite Run Disney Race. When they added the Glass Slipper Challenge, I knew I had to run it! If you’re registered for this year’s Glass Slipper Challenge, get ready for a weekend full of tiaras, tutus and bling! If this is your first Glass Slipper Challenge, this post is a must read for you!
Fit Disney Mom’s Glass Slipper Challenge Tips
- Train Back to Back!
If you haven’t started already, practice running two days in a row. This will help you mimic the race days at Disney World and get your body ready. Run Disney offers training schedules from former Olympian, Jeff Galloway.
- Be Prepared for the Expo
Print a hard copy of your waiver and have it easily assessable at the expo. Also, be prepared for long lines at the official Run Disney merchandise area. Princesses are known for shopping! If you don’t find a particular item because they are sold out, try coming back to the expo a different day. Sometimes they restock.
- Arrive Early
Be sure to arrive early each race morning. This hold true for any Run Disney event, but restroom lines can be long at the Princess Half events. I always bring a mini flashlight or use my phone in a port a potty so my costume doesn’t get dirty. If you are signed up for Race Retreat, you’ll have your own restrooms to use.
- Hydrate and Refuel
It’s so important to take the time to recover between the race days. Be sure to rest your feet and drink plenty of water. Don’t go overboard at the parks either. I like to wear compression socks in between back-to-back races.
- Use a REAL Bathroom
You read that correctly, you can use a real bathroom in the Magic Kingdom! Tomorrowland, Gaston’s Tavern and Frontierland all have bathrooms that are available to runners. The Tomorrowland bathroom is the first, so it tends to be the most busy.
- Expect Bottlenecking at the Castle
The best part of the Princess Half Marathon is running through Cinderella’s castle. Expect runners to bottleneck along the course at this point for photos. Just remain patient and try not to step on anyone’s glass slipper!
- Have Fun
Don’t forget to enjoy yourself during the races. It goes by so quickly and it’s an amazing experience. Smile and have a magical race weekend!
