One of my favorite summer cocktails is the frozen margarita. Drinking a margarita is so refreshing during the hot months and I’ve never been sad with one in my hands! This Frozen Margarita With Agave Syrup is a twist on the classic we all love. It’s sweetened with agave syrup instead of simple syrup. It adds a slightly different flavor that compliments the orange liqueur. Make a whole pitcher of margaritas with this recipe – perfect for parties!

Margaritas have got to be one of the greatest cocktails of all time! I love my Blackberry Margarita, that’s on the rocks. My Frozen Peach Margarita recipe is a great twist too, but the classic lime flavor is really where it’s at. It’s sweet, slightly tart, and it’s frosty. It’s the perfect cocktail to cool off with.
My Husband was the one who perfected this Frozen Margarita With Agave Syrup and I begged him to let me publish the recipe. It’s so good that we could no longer keep it a secret!
How To Make A Frozen Margarita With Agave Syrup
You’ll need a blender to make your pitcher of margaritas. I love my Ninja Blender because the blades easily crush ice, since they’re vertically stacked. You’ll also need plenty of ice on hand, so be prepared if you have to make some or buy some.
I love that this recipe does NOT use any store-bought mix. They’re such a waste of money and your margarita is going to taste better if you make it without.

The Best Jigger & Margarita Glasses To Use
I always recommend my favorite OXO Cocktail Jigger, that you can purchase on Amazon. Use it to measure out your alcohol. It has over 20k 5-star ratings on Amazon. If you invest in one tool for your bar, that’s the one I recommend the most!
I pour my Frozen Margaritas With Agave Syrup into classic margarita glasses. I love a great stem when I’m drinking them. However, you don’t need them to enjoy a margarita. I’ve used mason jar glasses and they’ve been great too.
What To Serve With Your Frozen Margaritas
We started making these margaritas because we wanted a cocktail for taco night. I can’t think of any better cocktail for that weekly occasion! But we also love making a pitcher of frozen margaritas for pool parties, Cinco de Mayo and neighborhood cocktail parties.
Tex Mex is our go-to when we’re making margaritas. You’d enjoy margaritas, at a restaurant, with Mexican food, so it’s an obvious choice. Here are our favorite Mexican dishes to inspire you:

How To Rim Your Margarita Glass With Sugar Or Salt
To make sure your sugar and salt stick to the margarita glass, you need to add a liquid. Citrus juices such as lime juice, lemon juice, and orange juice are common rim moisteners. I prefer to use a touch of lime juice. If you don’t have the extra lime juice, agave syrup would work too. Kosher salt is the type of salt you want to use!
What Type Of Tequila To Use For A Frozen Margarita
Tequila is the star of any margarita recipe. Don’t hesitate to invest in a great tequila. It really makes a difference with this cocktail. Long-term readers know I’ll be honest with you and tell you when you can cheap out. This margarita recipe deserves a great tequila.
I recommend using tequila reposado for this recipe. This type of tequila is aged and has a more nuanced, interesting flavor than a tequila blanco. Tequila blanco is not aged and has a straightforward flavor. You can use either, but reposado will add the most flavor.
The brand that we love in our home is Herradura. It’s a top-shelf tequila that’s so smooth and delicious. I’m also a firm believer (thanks to some college days) that cheap tequila will leave you with an awful hangover. Buying top-shelf tequila greatly reduces the risk of a hangover.
What You’ll Need From The Store:
- Agave Syrup
- Tequila (reposado)
- Grand Marnier (or Cointreau)
- Fresh Lime Juice
- Ice
- Optional: Kosher Salt or Sugar (for rim)
