As the weather warms, our family loves to incorporate even more fresh produce on our table. There’s something so delectable about fresh and ripe produce. Whether it’s the juicy first bit of a tomato sandwich or an irresistible strawberry trifle, I’m sharing my favorite tips for enjoying the best produce!
How To Find The Freshest Produce
Look For The Fresh From Florida Label
When I’m shopping for our family’s groceries, I’m always on the hunt for the freshest produce available. It makes such a difference in our recipes and I want our family to enjoy it longer. It’s easy to pick fresh produce, as long as you remember a few basic tips.
While every fruit and vegetable has its own clues to its freshness, there are some things I always look for. I can always trust the Fresh From Florida to ensure I’m bringing home the best.
Right now, Fresh From Florida tomatoes and strawberries are now in season. I shop at my local Sprouts Farmers Market and I always grab some of the Fresh From Florida tomatoes and strawberries. I incorporate them into recipes for added flavor, color and nutritional value. Their freshness is never compromised and it’s a must on our shopping list.
Use Your Senses
Ask yourself how the produce item smells, how it feels, and whether it looks appealing. I always look for bright colors and plump textures. You can gently press your finger against a tomato or look at the color of greens.
I always like to shop right after my store has received their shipment of produce. You can ask a store manager what time their daily or weekly delivery is. I notice that shopping on weekends means at lot of shoppers are out and sometimes it’s harder to score the best picks.
Enjoying Your Fresh Produce
I think you can add produce to any meal! I happen to enjoy fresh produce in my breakfast recipes and desserts the most, but there’s no reason you can’t add more produce to a meal. I love that it adds color and nutritional benefits. The kids love to enjoy fruit sliced and fresh, while I like to bake or cook with produce.
One of my personal favorite ways to enjoy strawberries is in a trifle: layers of fresh berries, angel food cake and vanilla pudding with fresh whipped cream. It’s light, fresh and delicious!
No matter how you decide to incorporate fresh produce this season, use it as a reason to bring your family together at the kitchen table. It’s all about enjoying the best produce, together as a family. That’s the perfect excuse to head to the store right now!
