Sensational Doritos Taco Pie Recipe

Imagine the world without tex-mex? It would be far less delicious! Our family eats a tex-mex inspired meal once a week. This Doritos Taco Pie recipe is hands-down one of our favorites.

If you love Doritos chips, which my kids always eat them, then you’re going to enjoy this recipe too. It’s layers of ground beef, cheese, creamy salsa dressing and crushed Doritos. You bake it to a bubbly perfection and serve!

Weeknight meals have to be delicious but easy. If I don’t come up with easy recipes, we’re tempted by takeout. Since the whole family loves taco night, we started getting into the habit of doubling the ground beef. I use the leftover taco meat for this Doritos Taco Pie.

I love that it bakes all together and the bottom has the night flaky texture – thanks to Pillsbury Crescent Sheets. Since my ground beef is already cooked, I can even prep the layers in the morning and come home to bake the pie at night.

Simple, easy and tasty – there’s so much I love about this Doritos Taco Pie. It’s always on our dinner rotations and never gets old.

How To Make Doritos Taco Pie

For this recipe, you’ll need a 9-inch pie dish. I use a glass one, but it doesn’t matter if yours isn’t glass. The ground beef is browned off in a sauté pan over the stovetop. Other than that – those are the two biggest kitchen tools you’ll need for Doritos Taco Pie.

What To Serve With Doritos Taco Pie

We rarely have leftovers with this pie because everyone enjoys 1-2 slices per meal. The base of the pie is Pillsbury crescent sheets, which gives it a buttery and flakey crust. It’s a little heavy and doesn’t necessarily need anything else with it, but if you want to make it more of a complete meal, here are some ideas:

We always just eat the taco pie by itself, but if you have a larger family, you may want to add a few sides to complete the meal. A dash of extra hot sauce on top and cilantro for garnish gives it some added color too.

How To Keep Your Doritos Taco Pie Fresh After Baking

Once your pie has baked and cooled, you’ll want to cover the pie dish with plastic wrap. Keep the Doritos Taco Pie refrigerated. For best freshness, enjoy the pie within 4-5 days of baking. To reheat the pie, I use the microwave to warm individual slices. A low heat oven would work too.

Can You Freeze The Pie?

Yes! Doritos Taco Pie freezes really well, making it a great freezer meal if you have to prepare for being busy. Sometimes I’ll make two pies and freeze one for later to enjoy! I’ve also given the pie as a gift to families who are in need, from the freezer.

The pie is good, in the freezer, for up to 3 months. Let it thaw 24-hours in the refrigerator before heating again. When I’m warming it up from a thawed state, I’ll use the oven at 300º for 20 minutes. Just check that the center is warmed thoroughly.

Recipe Variations

If you can’t find Pillsbury Crescent Sheets, the traditional triangle crescent rolls work well too. Just place them in the bottom of the pie dish and press the seams together. Fold the top of the triangles over, to create the pie edge.

Feel free to use any reduced fat products for the dressing. Our taco ground beef is made with 96% lean beef, but a fattier ground beef works too. Just drain any grease prior to adding it to your pie.

Lastly, play with the Dorito flavor! I use traditional Doritos, but any type of Dorito flavor will be great. Cool Ranch has been a fun flavor to try. Mix it up.
