Bumpdate! 5 Things To Buy For Baby #2

21 weeks pregnant, pregnancy update

I’ve crossed to the “other side” and I’m beyond half way! I feel like I can officially start a countdown to baby time. We’ve been working hard to clear the baby’s nursery since it was a storage room. Truthfully, I should say my Husband has been doing most of the work as I watch.

But I picked out the paint color for the nursery, which was very exciting. We are using a safari themed bedding from Pottery Barn Kids. It’s actually a few years old. We bought it for my first born and never used it. After some internet sleuthing, I found the name of this gorgeous lemon yellow paint color by Benjamin Moore (below).

Overall, I’m feeling pretty good! I can tell that my tummy is rounding out a bit more though. My balance is feeling a bit off these days and it takes more effort to flip over at night.

Believe it or not, I’m starting half marathon training this week too! I’m starting my Jeff Galloway 13.1 race training. I got permission from my doctor and I’ll be walking my heart out. I don’t plan to run during training since Jeff Galloway’s half marathon is completely walker-friendly. I’ll be 3 weeks post-partum for the race, so I’ll be using the full 4:30 course time limit to finish walking. The only thing that will stop me from participating is a cesarean. I highly recommend his Atlanta half marathon if you are a beginner! Here’s my race recap from last year.

More details about my training progress to come!

Finally, my Husband and I have been busy purchasing all of the baby gear essentials that we’ll use for Baby #2. Some of the items we are replacing because better technology is available and some of the items we need since we’ll be having two kids.

5 Baby Gear Items to Buy For Baby #2

1) Baby Jogger City Select Stroller

I love all of the different configurations that this stroller can do with two kids. We chose to buy the 2015 version, while it was still available, and save $100. Your newborn goes into the stroller, with an adapter, and stays in the carseat. There is a seat, for your oldest, that can be moved. I’m excited to try it out with 2 kids!

2) Ju Ju Be “Be Prepared” Diaper Bag

This Bag! I love it. It’s got a larger footprint to hold everything you’ll need for two kids. Watch one of the review videos HERE and you’ll see why I love it. You can stuff blankets in it, diapers, snack containers and still have room for your own Mommy items. It even comes with a coordinating changing pad. It’s a must for 2 kids.

3) Aden and Anais Burp Cloths

These organic cotton burp cloths are so great. I started using them with my first born and just want more! They are reversible, can snap around the baby’s neck to be worn as a bib and they come in adorable prints. They wash really well and have a huge surface area for burping. Save your shirt, Moms, buy these!

4) Angelcare Video, Sound and Movement Monitor

We had a video monitor for my first born, but the technology has come such a long way since 2013. This Angelcare monitor detects motion, has video capabilities and alerts parents when there hasn’t been any movement for over 20 seconds. I’m looking forward to getting whatever rest assured sleep I can!

5) Pura Kiki Stainless Infant Bottles

We just discovered these amazing bottles. They are stainless steel, so they’ll maintain temperature. With no BPA or glass, I don’t have any safety concerns. The coolest part is that you can buy new tops to convert it to a sip cup or water bottle. It’s the bottle that grows with your child! We love ours.

Congrats! I love this list, but oh boy, we did NOT like our Angelcare monitor. I loved the idea of it, but the sensor (at least on ours) didn't work well, and we got false alarms, regularly. There's nothing like hearing that thing go off in the middle of the night, freak out because you fear your child has stopped breathing, and then go in to discover he's fine, and have it happen most every night. We finally got a cheap one and tossed the Angelcare - which was disappointing since it costs a lot and I really wanted to love it.

Wow! I wouldn't like that either. Good to know. We switched to it and haven't had a problem- yet.

That diaper bag is so cute, and it's a good idea to have a bag that comes with a changing pad. I was in a name brand coffee shop when my twins were babies and they didn't have a changing table. I didn't have a pad in my bag so I had to lay my babies on the nasty restroom floor on paper towels! That's not the only place I've seen to not have changing tables, either. It's amazing how many public restrooms don't have changing tables! Lesson learned: bring a changing pad ;)

I didn't have to buy a whole lot for baby #2 compared to the massive shopping for baby #1. Love that you're training for a half.
