Special thank you to Chevrolet for partnering with Savvy Mama Lifestyle for this post. I drove the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer, in exchange for my review. All opinions are my own.
The newly re-imagined 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer has a sleek and bold design with new features that make it even more efficient than the previous 2021 Trailblazer. It’s a sporty and more compact SUV that’s quite capable of taking you from city streets to recreational activities. It’s a great daily driver option for smaller families that don’t want a cumbersome oversized SUV. I’m breaking down the vehicle’s biggest highlights and why it should be a contender for your next family vehicle.
We drove the Trailblazer from Atlanta to Macon for a quick day trip to experience Macon Burger Week (because a great burger is worth traveling for) and we also included some city mileage while we tested it in the downtown area. Between parallel parking and smaller city spaces, I love that the Trailblazer can manipulate the tighter areas with ease. It’s like performing a “Goldilocks” test to find an SUV that’s just the perfect size.
The 2022 Trailblazer was more than capable of taking us throughout the city streets, but still offered a comfortable option for the several hours drive. Plus, the Trailblazer offers great gas mileage – making it a win min my book.
2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer “Mom” Review For Families
What’s the biggest differences between the 2021 model and the 2022 model? How they listed to what drivers needed most. New options for 2022 include:
- Available roof rack cross rails
- Available trailering package, including trailer hitch, harness and bezel
- Heated steering wheel
Chevy really considers the type of driver that the Trailblazer suits and the recreational activities that they’re doing. You can easily secure your kayak on top, take your camper and have a warm winter drive for your morning commute. They added options to the already sporty vibe that the Trailblazer offers. It’s such a versatile subcompact crossover, with a great $21k starting MSRP.
In terms of SUV size, in Chevrolet’s product line up, the Trailblazer falls between the Chevrolet Trax and the Chevrolet Blazer. You’re getting a lot of design features at a great price, for a smaller subcompact.
Design Features For Families
I drove the ACTIV model which has a sleek and sporty look to it. It has a fresh rugged feel with the two-tone exterior. This model features an ECOTEC® 1.3L Turbo engine and comes with sport terrain tires, a suspension tuned for off-road capability and a functional front skid plate.
It handles well around the city and feels responsive as you drive. At highway speeds, it offers some gumption to accelerate throughout traffic. On the streets, the Trailblazer has quick steering, which really helps navigate tighter downtown areas.
The 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer won best-in-class for backseat leg room and it shows. There’s plenty of adult leg room, and it’s wide enough to fit three carseats. Also, the 40/60 rear seats fold down to allow for 54.4 cu. ft. of cargo volume, giving you plenty of space for whatever you want to load up. The front passenger seat also folds down flat, if you’re carting longer items – up to 8 1/2 feet.
Technology and Connectivity Options For All Generations
I love the size of the standard 7-inch infotainment screen, but you can also upgrade it an 8-inch. We pull up navigation, as we drive, from our smartphones using the Apple CarPlay system (they also offer Android Auto). It’s a great way to safely stay connected on the go.
You can connect up to two bluetooth devices at the same time, when you opt for the technology package, which makes entertainment even easier for families.
Chevrolet was my first experience with in vehicle WiFi and road trips haven’t been the same since. I promise that it’s life changing! I love connecting to the 4G WiFi when we’re on the road. It allows me to work while my Husband drives and the kids can stream movies.
Driver Assist Features of The 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer
Parents with older kids – you’ll really appreciate the safety features that come with Driver Assist. With such an amazing price tag, the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer is an attractive vehicle for emerging young drivers.
Chevrolet equips every Trailblazer with a set of basic driver-assistance features, known as the Chevy Safety Assist. It’s standard on all trim levels, and includes the following:
- Automatic Emergency Braking
- Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
- Forward Collision Alert
- Front Pedestrian Braking
- Following Distance Indicator
- Teen Driver Technology
- Rear Seat Reminder
- Rear Vision Camera
Overall, I was most impressed with the Trailblazer’s sporty exterior and quick handling. It’s really designed for drivers who want outdoor adventures, but also need to get around the city. Surprisingly, with its smaller footprint, the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer still packs so many options with a great price tag. It can’t be beat.
